I recently read an article about a woman in Berlin who jumped the fence at the zoo into the polar bear den. That might be the most ridiculous thing ever done. Polar bears are one of the most dangerous animals in the world. Maybe her knowledge of polar bears ends at the cute Coke commercials where the bears are snuggling up with one another in the snow drinking a Coke. Chances are, she knew that there would be at least SOME danger in jumping into the den. Lucky for me, this incident was captured on camera. Take a look!

This is crazy! Ole Yogi is having his way with that woman. I can’t believe people are this stupid.

Wait...

Yes I can. I am that stupid. Polar bears are dangerous. That is a given. But how much more dangerous is sin, or Satan, or my flesh? Knowing full well that sin will destroy and kill me, why do I jump in that pit? The book of Hebrews tells me what to do...check it: “...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles...” In other words, “don’t jump into the dangerous polar bear pit.”

I can take this one step further. Since I am stupid enough to jump into the pit, I am also stupid enough to think I can save myself from the bear. I would argue that it is here where most people struggle. We mess up and we feel horrible so we say things like. “I am done doing _______” or “I messed up but I won’t do that again” or “I can beat this issue” or even “I can get out of this death grip from this bear.”

Check it out. No matter how good I think I am or how strong and determined I am or even how sincere I am about stopping this sin, I can’t. You can’t. Self determination and “Can do” attitudes have infiltrated our churches and theology. It is bad theology. The only way you can overcome sin is by admitting you can’t overcome sin anymore. SURRENDER. We have to break away from this “I am a good person” mentality. Biblical Christianity isn’t built or based on morality; yet so many times we try to be “extra good” so that we don’t sin. Biblical Christianity is built on surrender and dying to your “extra good” ego. David was right when he wrote in Psalm 51, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” I must be broken over my sin. I need to be broken before the Lord over the issues in my life that I can not overcome.

I leave with this thought. It is Easter. The most important event in history. Christ died on the cross to make right our righteousness before God by becoming sin for us. He destroyed the power of sin, but I still try to overcome it myself. He destroyed the sting of death by rising from the dead and giving us LIFE TO THE FULLEST.

“I will not boast in anything; no gifts, no power, no wisdom. But I will boast in Jesus Christ; His death and resurrection.”
H

I admit it. I am the world’s worst blogger. Usually if people are bad at blogging, they just accept it and move on to other interests. My problem is, I want to be a good blogger. I want to sit down and write out ideas, stories, or thoughts. I think there are great things that can come out of blogging or even journaling for that matter. But I have never been good at it. Sure, there are times in my life where I go through writing stages...but I haven’t been on that stage in a long time. And then there is always that pressure to write amazing, deep, clever, funny, unique, mind bloggling blogs. So this is my new solution: I am not going to try.

That is it. Simple and plain.

The thing is, whenever I try too hard to write, I never can do it. It’s time to take a fresh approach to this thing. So I am hitting the blog reset button and starting all over.

THE END.

I can’t believe it! A boy! I had a strong feeling from day one that we would be having a boy but to find out for sure hit me like nothing else ever has. I have found myself on multiple occasions filled with joy to the point that I tear up simply at the thought of me having a son. What a feeling! Bec wrote in her blog that we have decided to name our son CARSON EVERETT HALL. She explained what each name meant but if you missed it, here it is again!
______________________________________
Carson’s inherent meaning is DILIGENT and the spiritual connotation is LOYAL. We recently found out that the Scripture passage for this name is from John 15:16:

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain.”

WOW!! What a sermon in and of itself. We have been chosen by God to bear fruit, the fruits of the Spirit. What a prayer for myself, my son, and everyone who reads this. Ever since I heard about that text in relation to my son’s name, I can’t stop thinking about it!

Carson’s middle name “Everett” carries just a strong meaning and thought. The inherent meaning is COURAGEOUS, while the the spiritual connotation is UNENDING PRAISE. The Scripture passage for this name is Psalm 96:1:

“Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth!”

God has chosen us to be HIS. Our natural response should be praise. Unfortunately so many times, our flesh interrupts the praise.

In light of all this name business, this has been my prayer for Carson:
Oh, may your praise to God be unending. May you always look for that new song to sing; in the easy times, and in the hard times. That you might forever praise His name because He has chosen you to bear His fruit.

We started the year off with a bang! Seriously, we shot fireworks. If that wasn’t enough, we had a bonfire and threw the fireworks into the bonfire. It’s fun to guess where they will shoot off and thankfully no one got hurt.

I digress.

Here are some sweet things coming in 2008:
-much scooter riding with Will
-my 25th birthday
-Beans
-Launching of Olive Juice [more details to come]
-The birth of our child in Aug [more details to come]
-Our 2 year anniversary
-Becky’s 25th birthday
-[fill in the blank]

There will be more edits as events come and go.

tonight: poker
But you have to give me credit. This is the closest I have ever come to wishing someone a Merry Christmas other than in person. You see, I am not big on writing cards. I don’t know why, I think they are lovely. I would just rather tell someone in person for free. Becky doesn’t really understand it and that is fine with me. I will let her buy and write in cards all day long. For me, I would rather spend the $2 on 2 songs from itunes.

Man. It feels good to get that off my chest.
